This piece was written for entirely official purposes as a piece of pure public propaganda on the occasion of a celebration of the 37th anniversary of the October Revolution, but it is so vivacious and brilliant an orchestral firework that it has found a secure place in the international repertoire. The Festive Overture opens with a brass fanfare that continues to build until the first theme. The brass section can also be heard prominently in restatements of the primary theme.
